Wileman Grotesques
Ever since my family started collecting Foley Wileman China the most interesting (and Rare) of the collection is the range of Grotesques that were designed by Frederick Alfred Rhead.
We knew they existed as they appeared in a book in Black and White so gradually we have gathered up either the item itself, pictures of the real thing or in the case of the dragon an original painting from the pattern book.
It is our mission to try and fill the blanks.

Maybe you should up date this blog!
Great idea to add colour! Ignore the previous comment - after all the article was published in 1899, so there's no rush.
I have some pics you might like, and part numbers - are you still interested?
And could you do a swap of some?
Cheers
Chris
Amazing coincidence - what's just popped up in an auction - the character jug which is your least good illustration

You're clearly not reading this, but anyway. See a new version of the Artist 1899 article at

I see you took my idea and ran with it. I've not been updating this blog for a few years now but checked back after seeing your booklet sent out with the Shelley magazine. We now have 8/12 pieces and +1 in the family. I am most interested to know where the pink dragon image came from - have you seen one in real life? This and the frog are the only ones we haven't seen in the wild. Ben
The pink dragon image came from a collection of Rhead drawings. See it on my co-author's web-site at http://www.senft.co.uk/Pottery-Shelley-Intarsio/ . I've not seen a real-life one
and also on page 41 of the new e-version of our Shelley book!
